Description:The UNIX Administrator (L2) is responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance, administration, and monitoring of primarily Red Hat Linux servers and associated applications in a multi-site environment. This includes the design and implementation of new environments, maintenance of existing environments, and support of production operations.
Duties:• Works closely with other IT groups to design and implement new UNIX environments in support of business and IT initiatives.
• Designs, implements, and maintains UNIX system backups.
• Creates stable baseline patch levels for all UNIX environments and ensures appropriate patch levels are maintained.
• Key participant in the design, implementation, and testing of disaster recovery procedures for the UNIX environment.
• Provides top tier user support for critical production systems and restores UNIX systems quickly in the event of a production outage.
• Works with IT Security personnel to ensure UNIX systems are properly secured and appropriate policies and monitoring are in place to protect our data from unauthorized disclosure.
• Communicates effectively with IT management and peers about UNIX related issues, proposed design changes, and planned maintenance activities.
• Evaluates and recommends the purchase of hardware, software, and technical services related to UNIX servers and provides basic hardware support by racking, cabling, and installing systems.
• Creates and deploys standardized configurations.
• Works with the IT development team on setup and maintenance of development and test environments.
• Provides support for the testing of new and modified UNIX based applications in QA and the promotion of production ready applications to the production environment.
• Works effectively as a team player with the other members of the IT technical operations staff.
• Must be able to identify areas of improvement, find appropriate solutions, and effectively manage associated projects and tasks.
• Creates and maintains documentation on new and existing UNIX environments.
• Uses scripting to automate routine tasks where possible.
Qualifications:• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field or experience equivalent to education.
• Minimum of 5 years total relevant IT experience.
• Minimum of 5 years UNIX server administration experience with a least 3 years supporting Redhat Linux.
• Extensive experience with RHEL server design, administration and troubleshooting.
• Working knowledge of server deployment and management in a VMWare ESX environment.
• Experience configuring and supporting various applications on Redhat Linux including Apache, Tomcat, OpenSSL, etc.
• Background in UNIX server security including system hardening, application security, and patch management.
• Experience managing systems using Redhat Satellite or Spacewalk.
• Knowledge of disaster recovery methods and procedures.
• Experience with networking protocols and applications such as DNS, SMTP, SNMP, SSH, SSL, FTP, SCP, etc.
• Experience configuring and using server monitoring tools. Nagios experience a plus.
• Working knowledge of Oracle databases operating on Redhat Linux.
• Experience administering and supporting LDAP. Oracle Internet Directory experience a plus.
• Background working with EXT3/4, NFS3/4, iSCSI, VXFS, and LVM including raid level concepts, storage performance, and optimization.
• Experience designing and troubleshooting clustered environments. Veritas cluster or OCS/RAC a plus.
• Experience supporting Oracle E-business related applications including WMS, SOA suite, Demantra, OBIEE, and Weblogic running on Redhat Linux desired.
• UNIX or other relevant IT certifications a plus.
• Knowledge of windows based systems and applications a plus.
